Calm on the Great Salt Lake

The sunsets looking west across the Great Salt Lake from Antelope Island are breathtaking. When you are in Utah, take a moment and head out to this state park and enjoy the beauty!

Take Off of a Swainson's Hawk

Traveling the 4x4 roads north of the Great Salt Lake in Utah is an adventure. You come across a plethora of wild birds and critters. I photographed this hawk who sat on a fence post watching me create some landscape photographs of the lake. When I turned my attention to him, he decided that the interest had dissipated and he was “out here”. Made for a good “exit” photograph

White Rock Bay from Frary Peak Trail

Frary Peak is the high point of Antelope Island, the largest island in the Great Salt Lake . The trails starts near the great Salt Lake and climbs to 6,596 to the summit of the peak. This is one of the great views while traveling the trail. There are many interesting features of Antelope Island and Frary Peak that make the trip worthwhile. For geology buffs, Frary Peak has some of the oldest rocks on earth, at 2.7 billion years old. Interestingly, some of the youngest non-volcanic rocks also reside on the island. The tufa rocks were deposited by lake Bonneville 10,000 to 15,000 years ago.

Crooked Canyon Wyoming

The southwest corner of Wyoming seems like the badlands of America. It’s high plateau deserts are dry and the rock formations show the historical depositional environment. Stopping off and exploring this area is fun, especially in the cooler months of spring. Crooked Canyon is a great place to stop and saunter through exploring the geology, fauna and flora of the region.

Traildog's Winter Fantasy

A saunter to the top of Mount Falcon with a heavy spring snow is exactly what Teig dreams about…. Luckily we got a great big snow in Colorado!

Black-capped Chickadee and Snowflakes

This Chickadee was braving the snowflakes during a snowstorm at RedRocks Park outside of Morrison Colorado. FYI: The song of the Black-capped Chickadee is one of the most complex vocalizations of all animals, acting as a contact call, an alarm call, to identify an individual, or to indicate recognition of a particular flock

Freight Train at Coal Creek

North of Golden Colorado the coal and freight trains travel at the base of the Front Range mountains on the expedition to deliver their goods. This is one of my favorite short hikes near Coal Creek to saunter out to the mesa and watch these behemoths switch tracks, by-pass each other and slowly make their way to their destinations with Denver in the background. Who doesn’t love to watch the long trains chug along?

The Cross in the Desert

I went to the Monastery of Christ in the Desert. This benedictine monastic grounds is near Abiquiu, New Mexico which has a Abbey on the banks of the Chama River. I walked and meditated at this monastery and sauntered through the grounds. The scenery and extreme quiet was very appealing to me. This cross was below the large cliffs that arise above this compound.

Sunrise at Pawnee Buttes

A beautiful Colorado sunrise in the middle of the Pawnee National Grasslands. We spent the night camping and photographing the stars the night before and still had time to photograph the sunrise and get back to Denver for other work.

Winter at Beautiful Redrocks

Sauntering through RedRocks in Morrison, Colorado. If you get a chance, hit the area when there is snowstorm happening. Crowds will not be found and the serene red formations with snow makes for a wonderland for hiking. Teig absolutely loves winter in Colorado’s Front Range.

Mission Catholic Cross

I visited the Benedictine Abbey of Christ in the Desert in Northern New Mexico. I meditated and explored myself in introspection on a beautiful morning at this wonderful place. Everyone is welcome and the place is so very peaceful. I walked the grounds and captured many images of the figures that fascinated me. This photo is of one of the crosses at a meditation shrine… just wonderful.

Shake It Off on South Peak

Spending time exploring South Peak above Twin   Lakes in central Colorado. We found small ponds left from snow melt, not uncommon for alpine elevations above 12,000 feet. Teig enjoyed a quick dip before continuing with our hike on these beautiful ridges.

Traildog Scouting the Snow Covered Mountain Trail

Teig and I get excited about exploring the Front Range Mountains of Colorado after a spring snow storm. On this afternoon we were up on Mount Falcon outside of Morrison Colorado. We saunter the trails and explore nature in this serene scene. On these days there are very few others out on the trails. I highly recommend it.

Proud in the Winterscape

Teig is looking stately in the heavy snow on Mount Falcon outside of Morrison Colorado. This photo reminds me what a fantastic Traildog Teig is and how much experience he has in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. He has logged more miles than many hikers and has summited 24 Fourteeners in this beautiful state.

Shoreline of Lake Erie

What do you do when in Northern Ohio… hit the the coast of Lake Erie. I found some remote places along the shores of the lake that were beautiful and quiet. Really surprised by the nature found there.

Winter Fun on Morrison Slide Trail

What is better than the bright sun shining on a snow covered Redrocks trail after a huge snowstorm? I think you can tell how Teig feels about that. He was enjoying the run through the snow and I was thoroughly enjoying the views of Denver towards the east. We had the whole trail to ourselves and was playing and having fun every second!

A View of the Colorado Flatirons

Teig looking at the fantastic views from South Table Mountain outside of Golden, Colorado. A great hike near sunset with the views of the Front Range and the Flatirons to the north.
